Hands of Christ

Concept/Objective: God created each of us with a purpose. He asked us to be His hands and feet on earth.

Spiritual Works of Mercy:
Bible Verse: “Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.” 1 Cor 12:27

Corporal Works of Mercy: Using handprints, make a card/tile for someone in need. You can decide which ministry you would like to support at this time.

Materials/Supplies Needed:
-“Beautiful Hands” book, Kathryn Otoshi & Bret Baumgarten
-Paint and/or stamp pads to paint hands for handprints (you can search the internet to find a handprint project that is appropriate for the ministry you are donating to)
-Cards/tiles/paper

Opening Prayer:
Dear Lord, You have created each of us for your purpose. As you live in us, we are asked to be your hands and feet. We ask that you show us how we can serve you by serving others. We ask this in your name… Amen.

Procedure/Discussion:
1. Read “Beautiful Hands” book to the children.
2. After reading the book once, go through it again with the children.
3. Discuss each question asked in the book. Encourage the children to elaborate on the answers they give for the questions.
-It is important to encourage the students and let them know that each of their hands CAN make a difference in this world.

Activity:
1. Have the children gather their supplies to make their handprint project.
2. Share with the children: God created each of us for His purpose and we/they are called to be his hands and feet. All of our handprints are different because we are all uniquely created by God. Everyone has their own set of fingerprints.
3. Have the children create their projects:
a) You can use one from the internet.
   b) General: Cover their hand with paint or ink. It can be different colors or the same color. Gently place their hand on the card, tile or paper. Have them say 5 prayers (ie Hail Mary, Our Father, etc) for each finger. The prayers are being said for the ministry you are supporting and donating the projects to once they are complete.


Additional Activities:

Have a thumbprint activity. Have each child put their thumbprint on a card or tile and create a picture with it. Discuss that no one has the same thumbprints - even identical twins. We are all created in a unique way for unique purpose.
Blow bubbles to emphasize how delicate the womb is inside the mom. We must pray for the unborn babies to be able to grow healthy until it is time for them to be born.

Closing Prayer: Glory Be
